Thoughts on a rainy afternoon. dec 21 2001

To my dear Belle

It was a fair wind brought m,e from a foreign land

to meet you, to love you, to ask for your hand.

It was a kind fate that joined us together

to spend a lifetime facing foul or fair weather.

You gave us a wonderful child to raise and adore

we lived in peace and harmony-who could ask for more!

We grew old without any major pains of sorrows-

There was always the hope of pleasant to-morrows.

You then told me you wanted to be the first to leave

Your wish came true and left me to grieve.

But I am hanging on and have much to remember

Yet the fire we shared is now just a fading ember.

Life has lost its luster and the hours get long,

I am one of many who has to sing a lonely song.

There is nothing to rep[lace a lost love, gone forever now

yet the days pass and the years fleet somehow.

This is an elegy to lost life and lost pleasure

but, praise the Lord, a fond memory I can treasure!

Poem

For years you have been putting thoughts in the closet of your mind to share them with your dear wife. Your life's
partner is gone. The closet is not as full as before, but this
thought prevails:
You are alone

You spent a lifetime putting things on a shelf so that the dog cannot reach it. The dog is gone, the shelf is full of memories:
You are alone

each day events are happening in the world. You put them
in drawers labeled "good" or "bad". The bad drawers are
overflowing, they affect you and everyone on the globe:

You are not alone
