HIBERNATION
Would they be entitled important news not to be sharing?
Are they ready to hibernate in thier so lonely nest?
Just ignoring what happens around them -is that best?
An emphatic "no" is the answer if they are physically able-
they should not act as if now banned from life's table!
Now , with eelevision, events daily come to their door,
just sitting and watching is destined to become a bore.
While participation is limited-there are still things to do,
such as absorbing knowledge or sharing what they knew.
Experience counts, the should be willing to give advise;
even if the recipients may scoff and think otherwise.
To be mentally alert gives substance to the waning days-
to keep up with innovations still an important role plays.
The moral of my story: rejoin the living, don't hibernate;
know wat's going on-there are still decisions to be made!

ON THE CARPET
Therefore I shall try to praise it with great apprehension.
This is something that gets stepped on without much care-
it serves anyone without distinction- just because it is there.
They used to roll it out for kings or other very noble creatures,
it's softness and beautiful desings were the most noted features.
You throw in the carpet when of anything you had enough,
to be called on the carpet means you can't get away with a bluff.
Far away Persia was the place where they were carefully created,
they leant beauty to many drab places-that is really not overstated.
Made by artisans and woven carefully on a handmade loom:
it rerely happens now, modern carpet factories spedded their doom
The older they get, the more valuable are these handwoven pieces-
some are hanging in museums, their appearance many people pleases.
So, let us step carefully and appreciate the service they provide-
they will keep serving you well, can point to them with much pride.
SENIOR RAMBLINGS
now, in retirement, all your efforts seem so staged.
Your hours used to be regulated and often regimented-
now, all of the time is your own, it feels open-ended.
A day's work made hours seem short, they did go fast,
when now your are idle and many thoughts dwell on the past.
In the evening family gathered to report on current event-
now- no one is there to tell of the lonely hours you spent.
Your past life was one that was full of continuous sharing,
knowing that you were surrounded by those who were caring.
Yet there are still relatives and friends on whom to call
but in your own home you are only able to talk to your wall.
Such is life, there is a point when you have to loo9k out for yourself
when your close companions are the TV and the books on the shelf.
You have to be grateful if you can function at reduced speed,
just console yourself- you know there are those you can call in need.

Time counts
TIME COUNTS
What is Time ? Some people consider it a great big void.
When you are retired its overabundance can make you paranoid.
Most of your life you deemed each minute a precious gift.
Comes old age you linger: any excitement goes to the swift.
The hours drag while your days on Earth slowly diminish,
Much of your thinking concentrates on when you will finish.
Where once of this commodity there was never enough:
Now, each second of your existence is a diamond in the rough.
We are told to spend time wisely, not to be in too much haste,
It should be considered of much worth, surely not go to waste.
As months pass you will dwell on the past, that is known fact,
Because there are many things you did wrong. Too late to retract.
Inevitably there comes a time when time starts to run out-
We have to accept our fate, that’s what life is all about.
We should look on the good side, if we are here, we are blessed:
No matter what others may think, we know that we did our best!the earthquake
THE EARTHQUAKE
Minding my own Business I was in my favorite market, shopping.
Thinking of what to buy when suddenly things started bopping!
Where before everything was neat and tidy; there was hell to pay-
The floor was swaying under you feet-a shock was on the way.
Let me tell you that I am not new to this kind of scary thing:
Living in
Not that you ever get used to it, but again I felt the Earth tremble
And things that were nice and neat turned into a big shamble.
Particularly, I recall standing on a balcony on a second floor
When the earth shook, I felt I was floating on air forevermore.
It really humbles you when the ground under you gives way,
Even if it passes quickly and you know that you are all okay.
It gives you a feeling of being reminded that there is a higher power_
Well, that is another one; it was recorded at a low 5 point 4
Yet it should be a warning, someone might settle your score!
the new age
THE NEW AGE
By my hair I am being dragged into the “new age”!
For all these years I did not miss it, did not want to be a sage.
But, nothing ever stands still in our world, always a new notion
Thus, an all new sense of communication comes into motion.
A whole new language has developed, words never known before:
If you are of a venerable age, you really dread what is in store.
They call it “computerization”, that’s how they communicate-
For me, to master new technicalities, I feel it is too late.
Now I am told on it to preserve my poems of posterity-
Let me just say this taxes my old brain with severity.
It did not take me long to master my “copier” – it was easy,
Now the thought of storing my work on a computer makes me queasy.
They say, you have to go with the times or you will get musty,
If you don’t keep up with the new gadgets you will get rusty.
So, there you have it: always something new to learn and master:
It ain’t easy- but experimenting with it makes the time go faster.
