Every part of the human body is precious, there is no doubt.
There are the heart and the lung-but the eyes is what this is about.
Nearing 100 years of age I am so blessed without glasses I can now see,
and I am so grateful to my good eye doctor- how on Earth can that be ?
Dr. HERTZOG has been the keeper of my sight now for many a year,
and, to boot, he loves my poems which makes him ever so dear .
It is such a pleasure to visit his grandly appointed office place,
knowing in advance that no hurtful moments I shall have to face.
His fellow physician many times has given me a thorough examination
and his female assistants most certainly deserve my full admiration.
Always I am received with a very friendly greeting, it feels so good,
to know that all these people care about old me, is truly understood.
Some doctors offices you fear to visit, but this one I surely do not,
with gratitude i remember many a fine reception I so often got.
Now, that I can still see so well- surely I am ever so much blessed,
these professionals, taking care of my eyes, truly are the very best !

Holy Days
When you are young, your eyes are clear, ears sharp - you are so blessed-
you are well taken care of, safely guarded, in your parent's warm nest.
if you are lucky, this will continue through your growing up with the years,
you shall be prepared and taught to cope, surrounded by your very dears.
But nothing stands still, time marches on and then you are one of the old-
should you still have most of your faculties-you are lucky, I am so told.
There is no doubt that one is privileged to still be on the family tree-
to feel that there is such good togetherness makes one feel ever so free.
Should the brain function it is a big boon and the days are ever so good,
yet there shall be a time when there is an end, that is clearly understood.
To be able to face this with equanimity we should call this a blessing-
one should take each day as it comes and not spend time guessing !
Looking back on a long span of wonderful years is now so rewarding,
to feel that one has been a good human being until the final parting,
gives room to the thought that those who follow will not pine too much,
knowing that one was loved- surely give it a so very pleasing last touch !

13140 Seaview Lane
It now has been my refuge and my haven for about twelve peaceful years.
Thus, joyously, ever so many times, it was able to welcome my New Mexico dears.
The sweet little doggies bring life to an otherwise very quiet, peaceful place-
all this to add to the pleasure I now so gratefully have been able to face.
Situated at a quiet corner it harbors me and I am so peacefully protected
and it now often comes to mind - it was the second place a search detected.
Very little traffic passes and truly very few people now come to my door,
certainly I was lucky to find this haven after leaving my lucky Belmont Shore.
There is ample room for my daily walks-mostly spent now on the inside,
that I am able to do so for 3/4 of an hour fills me with justifiable pride.
Located only minutes away from clubhouses where I can spend much time,
fortunately close to the "Friends of the Library" in our so very warm clime.
Visiting a neighbor daily brings pleasant conversation to keep in touch,
watching baseball games and Jeopardy I nightly enjoy ever so very much.
Thus life is still good for this old coot, may it last for some time to come :
surely, I am blessed to greet each day, I am gratefully luckier than some !

Loss of a friend
It is not an easy matter to lose a very good friend.
But the older you get, the more develops a trend.
People who were close are bound to leave this Earth,
gone are the days when togetherness was so much worth.
the news of another friend's leaving are received with dread,
especially when you thought his time had not come yet.
Not close in miles, I looked forward to his appearance-
to get together for lunch, the meeting never needed clearance.
A handsome tall man, he embraced me on his very arrival
and, nearing my one-hundred, he marveled at my survival.
Never did I see him "down", always he was full of good thought,
thus his leaving us so early brings any reunion to naught.
It is a good memory that we spent pleasant times together,
were able to often enjoy California's beauty in fine weather.
He shall be remembered with pleasure, he was a great man:
to have known him was a joy- I was a privileged fan!

TIME
Time is of the essence and running short, there is little doubt.
But, at old age, it will disappear and this is what this is all about.
The days are long and filled with much resting on the old couch,
but when it comes to writing poetry, surely I am no slouch.
My presence on this Earth has lost value and now few people care-
the friends and relatives who made it valuable-many are no longer there.
Yet, I am blessed that I can still think and most comfortably can breathe,
many left, and outside of my daughter and son-in law, there are so few of these.
Grateful I have to be that hours pass peacefully, without much upset,
there are lectures to attend, cards to play-the nights I do not dread.
Thus the years pile up and I am so very content to still enjoy my life,
though often now there are moments spent with thinking of my dear wife.
Thus there is no complaint if time has lost essence and very much worth,
to be able to look back without regret on the wonders of my birth.
Yes, the sun is still shining and I am able to enjoy the coming day,
it's friendly rays light up good thoughts and chase bad ones away !

S H O T S
There it is on my calendar and it says "SHOTS" ever so plainly.
The thought of this procedure occupies my mind now just mainly.
Thinking back on my long life these invasions of my body are numerous,
but, I guess, they worked and that I am still here is blessedly humorous.
Luckily my veins are plainly visible and thus very easy to be shot,
thus I am certainly happy that afraid of these shootings I am not.
Nearing one-hundred, once again, I have to submit to this invasion,
and while I know it will not hurt, I do not enjoy this very occasion.
A fine needle will pump some fluid in my unresisting skinny arm-
the admirable intent being- "this will protect me against future harm ".
It is just the thought that your body will now be somehow invaded,
yet that you will gain benefits much later is ever so clearly stated.
There is no argument, thus far it mainly worked for my protection
and that these fluids do their work leads to mental delection.
So, let them shoot away and be thankful to have this done,
these doctors and nurses ar a blessing to me and of benefit to anyone !

B O R E D O M
Boredom has set in, I am so sorry to now have to relate.
Where once was activity all is quiet, I must truly state.
Judging by the headings of my poems most subjects are covered,
truly my selection of further revelations has greatly suffered.
So, I sit and muse and try to revive what energy I once possessed,
I wish there was something to stir up some hornets nest.
The only activity I can boast of are my two daily walks,
or the visits to my neighbor for some meaningful talks.
Yes, there are books to read or the newspaper to cover-
but,I am sorry to state, I do not care about a movie star's lover.
The only salvation are crossword puzzles to strain the brain,
or two nightly poker games for some diversion to obtain.
Yet, I should not complain-to my actions there are no restrictions,
there are very few people now who will challenge my convictions.
Nobody cares about my politics and my opinions do not matter:
thus let me state-I try to keep my peace : I do know better !
